mordheim mmxxi – ghouls

ghouls! ghouls! oh it is time for mordheim it seems, a long while ago i purchased an entire undead warband from a chap who has had them since the game was released! it seems i have 6 ghouls, a handful of zombies, 2 dregs, a vampire, and a necromancer.

here is all of the folks that will make up the warband! i did some light kitbashing with the zombies, as well as some sculpting on the necromancer as he was missing an arm.

i decided to start with the ghouls first! the sculpts are so wonderful, so simple yet brimming with character. something about old pewter evokes that feeling of awe in me.

while building up the bases for these decrepit beings, i thought it would be fun to try out some cobblestone/tiles, it is the city of the damned afterall. i cut up some small bits of plasticard for this purpose, then doused the entire base with super glue and dunked each base into my container full of texture. dirt, static grass, sand, stone dust, assorted vegetation, everything i sweep off of my desk winds up in that container.

mmm texture

painting was quite simple, i started off by spraying a warm offwhite tone over a zenithal prime with my airbrush, then followed with a desaturated red flesh tone from below. i made sure to keep my paint transparent so the zenithal prime had a chance to work its magic.

after those steps, i went straight to oils! i mixed up a brick red wash and splashed it all over the flesh, as well as a raw umber mix for their clothes and weapons. after letting them sit for around 15 minutes i came back and removed the excess pigment with some qtips.

some olive greens and browns for the base, and the models were pretty much done! fast and simple is how i like to paint, managed to finish all 6 of these guys in around an hour.

anyways, i hope you enjoyed my ghoul painting monologue, the zombies are next up on my list!

have a good one,

max
